Such a beautiful engagement session!

These two came to me for an engagement session and it was such a treat for me to take photos of two people who are profoundly in love with each other! Add to this beautiful light and a very cute Vespa, and the evening was perfect!

Planning your headshot session

Professional headshots are the first introduction to you, your business and your personal brand.  Many HR professionals and recruiters turn to LinkedIn to find quality candidates. They might also look you up on Facebook and Twitter. And as they say: “a picture speaks a thousand words.”

This just proves that a headshot plays an important role in your professional life. Your headshot should be a powerful, compelling and confidence-instilling portrait that makes prospective clients, employers and partners want to reach out and connect with you.

So before you head out for your professional headshot session, think about what you want others to see when they glance at your profile page.

Think about some of the characteristics that embody your personal brand. Are you a chef, an educator, a writer? Do you work in the corporate world? Write down some keywords and phrases that you would like your photo to be about.

And then, there are the usual “what to wear” questions! So I have compiled a few tips for you:

– First off, to answer this question, you must be clear on your goals for the shoot. Where will your headshot or branding images be used and what industry are you in? What you wear will vary greatly depending on whether you need a classic corporate headshot or you are an creative needing photos for her new website. If you are a lawyer, you might need to pick a more formal outfit and stick with darker, conservative colors. If you are a massage therapist or jewelry maker, what you want to reflect your personality and your brand.

– Generally, there are some thing to avoid. Strong patterns, bold/bright colors, logos and images all draw the eye away from you. Pastel colors might make you look washed out and tired. Black might be too somber of a look. Sleeveless tops can be less than flattering. And for traditional corporate headshots, keep your jewelry and accessories classic.

– Having said that when in doubt, bring a choice of outfits and we can look at them together.

– For makeup, natural is best and hiring a professional makeup artist will ensure you get that polished look. I can organize a combined makeup/headshot session if you are interested.

My headshot and personal branding sessions vary from a quick and efficient experience that will give you that one headshot you need, to a comprehensive branding session that provides you with a whole collection of images to help you communicate who you are and what you have to offer. So it is important that your look matches the images you are aiming to convey.

Finally, even though this is a more professional shoot, I will help you to have fun and enjoy this time just for you. A relaxed, comfortable subject will naturally exude confidence and these images will draw people to you.

A “Sweet 16” session

This beautiful teen came to see me at my studio in Vinzel for an evening of photos and fashion. Having teens of my own, I know how important it is that they have moments in their lives where they are reminded (and shown via the photos) how beautiful and unique they each are. So cue in some professional makeup, her own mix of background music, an awesome outfit assistant, and her loving God-mother, and her conclusion of the experience was: “I feel so empowered!” Goal accomplished, I think…

Such a fun personal branding session!

A personal branding session is designed to create photos that showcase who you are and what services you offer. This session with Tithi from Tithi Pandya Designs is such a perfect example of the power of photography to tell the world who you are!

Tithi and I sat down before the session to talk about the types of personal branding photos we would take, and how to make her business ethos and personality shine through the images. And I think we did a really good job showcasing Tithi’s enthusiasm, warm personality, creativity and passion.

Tithi started to design clothes following a very personal journey through cancer and her own struggles to find clothes that fit her. She wants to help women feel good in her designs no matter what season in life they are walking through.

And I love the end result! What about you? Do you need photos for your website and for social media that portray who you are? I would love to help you brainstorm what those could be…

Family Photo Sessions Have Resumed!

After all those weeks of inactivity and uncertainty, it has been so wonderful to be able to go back out and do what I love: capturing joy and family connectedness outside, in beautiful evening light! Taking family photos outdoors, and with the long lens I have, I can make sure that we are all socially distanced.

I have found this gem of a photography location in Prangins, so very close to Nyon, and perfect for anyone living between Geneva and Lausanne. Add some gorgeous evening light, a beautiful family and tall spring grass, and life is good! Being outdoors allows a family to relax, move, dance and laugh. There is so much more freedom than in the studio, and I still make sure, of course, that I pose you well and make you look good. I think the photos speak for themselves… If you want to take advantage of the tall grass, best to get in touch with me very soon as it will be gone by early July.

More information about my family photo sessions here.

Family photography in gorgeous evening light

Winter time is a perfect time to look back at the previous fall and showcase some beautiful photo sessions! For this family, we had one of the last warm, summery fall evenings with the beautiful light you find close to sunset. I love being outdoors and letting a family play and interact together. It allows me to capture them as they are, and preserve a precious memory of this phase in their family life. Such an honour and a joy!

Did you know you can choose how many photos to purchase after the session? So you have flexibility on your investment? You can find out more here.

The perfect summer’s morning for family photos

Being a photographer and taking outdoor family photos in Switzerland can be challenging. My kids think I am obsessed by the weather because I think of it a lot! This particular morning, we had one of those perfect warm summery Swiss days. I like when that happens!

We found a lovely spot, headed there early to make use of the lovely light (and the cooler temperatures), and then we giggled a lot! I love nothing more than to highlight joy and connection within a family. And I have lots of tricks up my sleeve to encourage even the most recalcitrant toddler to have a good giggle… These four here did not need much encouragement though. Love and joy just oozes out of these family photos, don’t you think?! And when we finish with cake, kids leave happy! 😉

Timeless family photos full of love and fun in Prangins

These types of sessions are really at the heart of what drives me to offer photographic services. As a mom, I know how quickly my little ones have changed and grown. Capturing a family as they are, without any stiff poses, just enjoying each other’s company carries so much meaning for me. These photos will become treasured memories of this family’s life at this moment in time. I know someday, this mom will look back at this, and she will be so grateful to have captured her kids at this stage. Because they will have grown, they will have changed, and it happens in front of our eyes, without us often noticing…

Family photography at the beach in Rolle

The other day, my daughter and I had a picnic lunch at the beach, and it got me thinking about all the family sessions I do on our beautiful “Lac Leman.” This was my last beach session last year, and what a way to finish! I love nothing more than to capture joy and connection, and these photos tug at my heart strings. As the photographer, it is such a good feeling to know you have captured images that will serve as family heirlooms and, once printed, might be passed down to the next generation. I love my job!

Pregnancy photography

So, amazingly, over the summer, I have been able to catch up a bit on this blog. What is ironic is that I truly love what a blog can do. As opposed to just a couple of photos posted on FB or Instagram, here I have the opportunity to show more and tell a better story with my photos. And this is close to my heart, because I know that photos can truly be worth a thousand words. And I feel so humbled and fortunate to be able to capture a small story of someone’s family life, their love for their partner or their kids, the joy that is there. And yes, life is hard, and families are hard, and relationships are hard, but yet in very midst of this you also find amazing joy and fulfilment, and you have there the most precious parts of your life.

So, without further ado, here is another little story for you. The story of a young couple celebrating each other and celebrating the new life growing there, soon to arrive. 🙂

The freedom of outdoor family photography

If you have little ones, outdoor family sessions are the way to go. You get to play, laugh, tickle, run, jump, cuddle, and this freedom of movement means that everyone has more fun! This session is a perfect example of this. I sill make sure we find a lovely spot with beautiful light and then direct you to make the session itself a lovely family memory.  A win-win situation…

Family portraits in Divonne

One of the advantages of living in this part of the world is that we can find beautiful spots on the other side of the border too! Continuing with catching up on blogging some of my highlights from the Spring… 🙂

Next up is a family I have now seen several times for photos and it has been a joy getting to know them. Kuddos to this amazing mom who decided to go ahead with the session despite her girl having broken her leg that same week. I love it when the cast matches the general colour scheme of the session!!!

Beach family photos

Hi everyone,

Summer is here and I get to catch up on the blog! First up is this gorgeous early morning session at the beach. There really is something to be said for getting up early (or staying late) to benefit from that beautiful golden light and the fact that on the beach, we are the only ones there. I so enjoyed seeing these three – soon to be four – and capture again this beautiful phase in their family life.

Classic studio headshots

Continuing with shining the spotlight on the amazing entrepreneurs I have worked with… Next up is Roberta from AGOODDAY Relocation. Roberta came to me as she had recently moved back to Switzerland after several relocation experiences and needed headshots for her new business and for marketing materials. Roberta and I spent an hour or so taking headshots for her with the classic black and white backdrops, but really, actually, mostly chatting as I clicked away.  Her passion really shined through to me and it was easy for me to capture for her the types of headshots she wanted: professional and yet natural.

Being an expat in Oslo, Bangkok and Sidney, with her husband and two school age daughters, led her to open up her own relocation business. The experiences she had (both good and bad) were the catalysts for a deep desire to help families and individuals arriving here. As a result, Roberta has crafted AGOODDAY Relocation & Beyond as a boutique relocation company with a holistic approach to relocation. Thanks to Roberta’s law degree, a strong background in real estate market, plus her own experiences as an expat, Roberta offers personalised and comprehensive services to expatriates. Each relocation experience is unique and making the right choices at the beginning is essential for a happy expatriate life.

I have been lucky to work with entrepreneurs whose businesses are really personal and meaningful to them and with Roberta, I definitely know that you are in good hands should you ever need her services. You can visit her website www.agoodday.ch and her Facebook page for more information.

“Working with Michelle was amazing. I never had professional photos taken before and I was a little bit nervous, as I didn’t know what to expect and didn’t want photos that looked forced. Michelle is a very talented photographer and was great making me feel at ease and relaxed. She captured my individual personality, and I was very happy with the results and the quality.” – Roberta

Personal branding photos

Today I am shining the spotlight on another one of the entrepreneurs I have had the privilege of working with. Not all businesses I work with are child-related and with EPOPEE and its owner/designer/creator, Marie-Line, I was initiated into the world of high-end jewelry.

After a decade spent working for leading luxury jewelry brands, Marie-Line decided to spread her wings and make use of her love of design and fine materials to create her own line of jewelry. I got to walk alongside her as she designed her website, sought out high end suppliers, and articulated her vision. Together we brainstormed how to best create photos that would communicate what her brand is all about and showcase the precious materials she uses for her gorgeous creations.

What struck me with Marie-Line is her deep love for the materials she uses and her sense of perfection. Her attention to detail in our photo session helped create a unified and beautiful end result. Her photos showcase a world of light and delicate purity: semi-precious pearls, noble woods, silver chains, the reflections of labradorite, the shades of ebony, the shimmering light of mother-of-pearl…

It was an honour and a privilege for me to be a part of this process!

“Michelle was immediately able to know how to showcase the EPOPEE jewels. What I most appreciated was her ability to listen, her openness to new ideas, in particular while we shot the lifestyle images that are now the lead photos on my website. When I first came to Michelle, I had some ideas, but I was lacking in confidence. Her advice, her energy and her ability to capture what I had imagined both reassured and motivated me. A huge thanks to you, Michelle!” – Marie-Line

Sunset family portraits

Every family is different. This mom wanted to surprise her hubby with some nice photos of her and the kids.  The brief was for as many photos as possible of all of her happy crew together. And look at these beautiful children! This little girl is so lucky to have four loving big brothers.

When this beautiful mom told me she was bringing her five kids and her dog, I was a bit nervous. It can be  challenge to get five kids to cooperate and all look at me! It turns out she had a great bunch of kids, and with my tips and tricks to keep kids engaged, I am so happy with the photos we got.

So we chose a nice warm evening, with the gorgeous light of the sun dipping behind the mountain, a nice secluded spot with fall foliage and fields, and allowed time for this bunch to be together and enjoy each other’s company. I am so so pleased for this amazing mom (who happens to also be a student of mine with a lovely eye for photography – so yes, a bit of pressure for me, but oh so worth it!).

Commercial headshots

I am starting 2018 by shining the spotlight on some of the entrepreneurs I had the pleasure of working with last year. I met some incredible, talented entrepreneur women running their own businesses. It was a real pleasure to help them articulate and visualise photos that tell the story of the services they offer and the products they create. Collaborating with them and, at times, with a team of assistants, makeup and hair artists, and models was one of the most rewarding experiences I have had as a photographer.

Through the first months of this year, I will be sharing some of their stories, and of course some of the lovely photos we created together. First up is Claudette Bull-Buttay from www.bulltraduction.com.

Claudette is a professional freelance French to English translator who came to me as she was re-doing her website and wanted headshots to match the look and feel of her new website.

After studying languages and translation at university in the UK, she moved to France to take up her first professional position in the luxury hotel industry and after 12 years’ experience in marketing and translation, in 2007 she chose to setup her own business providing quality translation services.

Claudette serves the food, hotel and tourism sectors both on the Swiss and French side of the lake, and wanted photos that portrayed her professionalism and friendly personality. After some TLC in makeup, it was actually quite easy for me to capture her beautiful self and the results speak for themselves!

“From my perspective, I love the fact that the content I am entrusted with is constantly evolving to keep up with current trends and I have the privilege of working with passionate professionals. In return, they receive translations which are totally tailored to their needs, performed with great attention to detail. Many of my clients are long-standing and with whom I have built up a relationship of trust.” – Claudette

I chose Michelle for a photo shoot that would provide me with head shots for my new business website. The process couldn’t have been smoother or more professional from start to finish, from the very first email contact through to receiving the finished images (in a beautifully-wrapped little pouch). Michelle made me feel very comfortable during the shoot which took place in her studio and outdoors, and made it into a really enjoyable experience. I was delighted with the finished photos and have received many compliments on how great they look.– Claudette

Vineyard family photography

Now that my busy fall season is behind me, and the Christmas break is over, I can take the time to look back at 2017 and share some of my favorite moments. This session, at sunrise, in the golden vineyards above Rolle was quite special for me. The light on that day, the joy of these two little girls, bringing back memories of my own daughters at this age, the gorgeous golden vineyards with sweet smells all around, as this was taken during harvest… Just beautiful for all the senses!

I love capturing precious memories for families and I think we more than accomplished that with this session! So worth taking the time to scout this location in advance and find the best time of day for it, wouldn’t you say?!

Joyful family photos

I love finding just the right location for a client! This gorgeous mom wanted summery photos capturing the love and connection in her family. I found a lovely little corner of the world up on the Jura above Gland, so nice and fresh on this very very hot summery evening. That spot, plus the family… it was perfect! I think the photos speak for themselves… 🙂
